I was at the end of season Bash in Grapevine, representing the MS Society. Admittedly, I was not familiar with Rise Adventures prior to coming that day. My son and I took a break from the table, and walked around the grounds. I was amazed by the whole event. So was he. It was a fabulous event that I am glad I shared with my son. He is as visual as I and we both took something with us that day. I have a brother who has been in wheelchair my whole life. In 1999 my family did the MS snowmobile ride in Northern Wisconsin, on my behalf. I have pictures of my brothers strapping Daryl's legs to the side of the snowmobile. That was normal for my family to strap him on and away they would go. I always knew he could do what ever he wanted, he knew no limits. I may have inherited his spirit and spunk, which will come in handy-having MS myself. I am also not a stranger to adaptations that can be made to everything to accommodate who ever is willing to participate. I just didn't know that others knew it too and were making it possible for others to enjoy what most people take for granted. I came home that day, went online and signed up to be a volunteer. I volunteered at Gary Pickle's golf station and watching him instruct the youngsters on how to swing a golf club was impressive and seeing the awesome look on their faces was amazing. We also gave away 5 $50 LOWE's cards as raffle prizes to anyone that registered at the kayak booth. I have the winners and will be contacting them today!
