Staff

RISE Adventures, Inc.

The current staff is comprised of "full time volunteer employees" dedicated to accomplish this very important mission.

Paul Gray

Paul Gray is the creator and current full-time Chief Executive Officer of RISE. Paul has built many successful businesses in his corporate career. After retiring in 2006, he spent a year as the CEO of another outreach organization before creating RISE. With his vast business experience and dedication to the disability community, he formed RISE Adventures in March of 2007. Paul has been exposed to individuals with physical disabilities since 1969 when a friend became paralyzed in a car accident. He has witnessed the vast transformation of wheelchair sports and equipment available in the past into the sophisticated adaptive devices available today. Paul envisioned the need for weekly therapeutic programs providing needed outreach to a number of hospitals and industry organizations. After building RISE Adventures last year, he turned the organization over to the newly formed Executive Board of Directors and its elected officers in December of 2007.

Joel Hendrix

Joel Hendrix graduated from Forney High School and considered a career in the military. Soon after, he was afforded the opportunity to manage a construction business. His years as a manager provoked him to seek out other opportunities to better his community. Joel attended courses at the Center for Non Profit Management and mentored under Paul Gray for three years as a full time volunteer in the field of non profit organizations. He has been exposed to individuals with disabilities for most of his life; family members and friends have been in wheelchairs as long as he can remember. Joel has excelled in developing all the programs and volunteer opportunities since the inception of RISE.

Steve Carlson

Steve Carlson has volunteered for Presbyterian Hospital, Our Children's House at Baylor, Lakepointe Medical Center, and Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation for the past 15 years. During this time, he has accumulated over 10,000 hours of volunteer time. He has received numerous awards for his service, including the prestigious DMC Star Award given by the Dallas Mayor's Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities. After being paralyzed in an auto accident on Thanksgiving Day in 1987 and developing juvenile diabetes a year later, he dedicated his life to serving individuals with physical challenges. While going through rehabilitation, Steve observed many areas that needed improvement. In continuing his efforts to be involved in outreach programs, Steve currently sits on the board of R.E.A.C.H., an organization dedicated to reintroduce individuals with disabilities back into the community. He also serves on a number of other committees, including Baylor S.C.I. (Support, Challenge, Inspire), which provides outreach for their constituency.
