Rise Fishing–Thank You
Posted on August 9th, 2010 No commentsI want to give Andy and Traci a huge thank you for taking Alex, and Rich and I, fishing on Lake Ray Hubbard this past Saturday. Not only did he get to catch his first and second ever catfish (see attached pictures [and feel free to use or share them]), but he also got to meet a really great mentor in Andy. And Rich and I got to meet two new awesome friends!
Alex is eager to go out again Andy, so if you have any night fishing coming up or daytime fishing, please let us know. Also, by chance, did Alex leave his Texas Rangers baseball cap on your boat; if so, can you just store it for him under the seats or something and the next time we fish with you, we can retrieve it for him–thanks!
Paul–your organization is amazing!
Thanks,
Dawn

RISE Fishing 6/5/2010, They Caught Everything!
Posted on June 10th, 2010 1 comment
We fished for the first time with Tyler Landrum and family. Tyler started things off by catching a drum shortly after we got to our first spot and the action stayed steady for the rest of the morning. I think by the end of the day the Landrum family had caught at least one of every kind of fish in Lake Ray Hubbard. With a total of seven different species of fish caught you never knew what they had on the end of their line. I personally have never seen such a wide variety of fish caught in one short fishing trip. Not only did the Landrum’s catch every kind of fish in the lake they also managed to put together a nice stringer of crappie and sand bass to take home for dinner. We stayed out of the heat, we caught a lot of fish and everyone had a good time. That’s what I call a good day on the lake. If you want to go fishing you must make reservations by calling or emailing me at the following: 214-476-6048 andy-burton@hotmail.com. PS. If you are wondering here is the list of fish species caught that day; Drum, Sun Fish, Catfish, Crappie, White Bass, Yellow Bass, Large Mouth Bass. RISE Children’s Camping Tons of Fun!
Posted on May 12th, 2010 1 commentA great time was had by all! It started off Friday night around the Camp Fire with the appearance of Mr. Dempsey (Santa-Claus) sharing stories, not to be out down by the S’Mores.
Saturday morning after a great campers breakfast it was off to the Rifle Range. Each camper had an opportunity to fire the 22 Cal Rifle/Pistol and the 410/12 GA Shotgun. We determined that the campers were even better than the Hunt Master (Clayton) himself, after noticing that the bulls eye was hit several times.
Saturday Afternoon was spent Go-Carting. I could not determine based upon real life experiences, if more fun was had at the Rifle Range or the Go-Cart track? Alex from Little Elm proved to herself that she could drive as long as the vehicle was modified with hand controls.
Sunday morning time was spent at the pond fishing, after being transported by a hayrack. Fish were caught and once again a great time.
Cathy Smith and her kitchen staff need to be commended on the awsome meals that were prepared. CLICK HERE to see more photos from the event.

RISE Adventures First Annual, “Kickin’ off the Summer Bash I” CEO Recap:
Posted on May 4th, 2010 No comments
The RISE First Annual “Kickin’ off the Summer Bash I” held May 1, 2010 at Meadowmere Park on Lake Grapevine, was truly blessed! After weeks of concern on the lingering winter weather and the forecast of storms for the weekend, no storms or rain ever occurred. The event was held to get first timers acclimated to our programs, mission accomplished! All programs at the event were regular RISE weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly activities. RISE owns our own equipment for each program and collaborative partners supply the rest. -
RISE Fishing has started for the summer
Posted on April 13th, 2010 2 commentsWe took our first fishing trip of the year Saturday night 4-10. I am pleased to say it was a great success. Richard Queen and daughter Katie were fishing with us for the second time and on this trip Katie out fished her dad for the second time. We fished for just a few hours and we caught 20 to 30 fish. That’s a pretty good haul for this early in the season. Hopefully it’s a sign of good things to come for RISE fishing this year. I look forward to more good days and nights on the lake and lots of fish in the boat. All equipment, food, and drinks are furnished. To make reservations contact Andy Burton at andy-burton@hotmail.com or (214) 476.6048. CLICK HERE to see more photos.

My Fishing Experience was Amazing! 9/5/09
Posted on September 10th, 2009 No commentsDear, RISE Adventures
My fishing experience was amazing. It’s always calming for me to fish. But then at the same time it’s a fun challenge to actually try catch. At my latest fishing experience I caught five fish, and it didn’t even take that long to catch them. So the rest of the time I got to relax and enjoy the rock of the boat, and just have a good time. I really do hope to go on another fishing activity. I’m setting a new record to catch seven fish the next time I go, and it’s all thanks to Rise Adventures.
Sincerely,
Alex Barkheimer

Fishing with Andy, August, 29th
Posted on September 5th, 2009 No commentsThis was the very first time I have been fishing and I had a wonderful time. Don got attacked by Mini Jaws and we thought we were going to have to call 9.1.1. on the boat…..LOL. We caught a total of 15 fish, several were non-keepers but that ones that were we took home, cleaned, & I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the catfish.
I am so thankful that there is a program out there like RISE so that I can continue to do the same stuff I did as an able body, thank you very much. Now lets go ski diving:)Sincerely,

Fishing with Andy
Posted on July 29th, 2009 No comments
I want to thank Andy for all of his devotion to RISE programs! It’s amazing to see how the quad rugby Friday nights are the hot spot to be! Now I have to try and show up on time since everyone knows it’s a must! Thanks for taking a group of us night fishing the following day. We each caught 4-5 fish! Thank goodness since I was skunked the prior week when I attempted to fish 3 times in Alaska. Andy knows where to find success on Lake Ray Hubbard. He even brought adaptive equipment for a quadriplegic that he made personally. Thanks to all the volunteers that run RISE programs like Andy!!! I always look forward to a RISE activity on a weekly basis!!!

RISE Fishing in the Dark 6/27/09
Posted on June 28th, 2009 2 comments
RISE Adventures fishing on a late Saturday night was a huge hit. We all caught 5-6 sand bass in about three hours. The weather was great! We lowered lights into the water to attract minnows that would, in turn, attract the large fish. We used minnow bait on a hook, waited a few minutes and BAM!-fish on!!! I hadn’t fished in 15 years and the feeling of a fish grabbing my bait reminded me of being a kid again! Andy’s boat is very accessible and Travis was very helpful with the equipment and baiting the hooks. All in all, it was a really great time!View more photos click here.

RISE Kid Fishing With Captain Andy April 25
Posted on April 27th, 2009 2 commentsSometimes a Program starts off even better than we dare dream for and Saturdays fishing outing on Ray Hubbard was one of those times. Our Adventure started a little slow because of the wind preventing us from taking the boat out but the backup plan was to ask Ellis an employee up at Bass Pro who has a baited slip in a prime location if we could use his slip for our fishing Program and he not only offered up his slip but also delayed going into work so he could help offer an EXCELLENT Adventure for these young fisherpeople. Our three participants included Alex, Lauryn and Tyler and each caught way over 20 fish each and in fact they were getting tired from reeling in so many fish.
