They lost the game by 16 points… But at the end of the game no one was hanging their head. They were ecstatic, they played beyond their expectations and they played hard as a team. There were a total of 7 teams from all around the country that came to play. Crown went on to take first place in the tournament and the Cowboys continued to lose the rest of their six games. On Friday December 18, the Dallas Harlequins played Team RISE Adventures in a charity fund raising Quad rugby event. This year we gathered to help support two charities over the holidays. The event brought in tons of toys for Toys for Tots and some money for Triggers Toys. Both teams brought out numerous fans to support their team and these wonderful charities. Once again Team Rise dominated the scoreboard 56 – 46! ON Magazine did a photo shoot with RISE and it will soon be profiled in their magazine. This event wouldn’t have be possible without these great sponsors! C & R Medical , Lift Aids, and ON magazine

Team RISE Quad Rugby Newest Player
Posted on July 14th, 2009 1 comment
RISE quad rugby has been growing leaps and bounds this past several months. One of our newest players is an 18 year old man from Benbrook, Texas. Justin Miller’s first experience with RISE was with this program. Here’s what Justin had to say:“I heard about quad rugby over the internet and I first started playing sometime in May. I was encouraged to play rugby by watching the movie “Murderball” with Mark Zupan. He has been my idol since I was 4. I like playing rugby because I like the rough competition and playing with my friends. Also I like contact sports, which makes rugby all the better. Since I can’t play football, quad rugby is the next best thing. When I first started playing I kind of stunk, but now I am getting better and better as I practice. I plan on playing Murderball all the way through collage, even though I don’t know which collage I’m going to yet.”

RISE Thanks to Local Iron Workers #263
Posted on February 12th, 2009 4 commentsJulio – I just wanted to personally thank you for helping out RISE Adventures. The Rugby chairs where certainly needing some attention and you all did a great job. RISE would like to thank the Local Iron Workers #263 for donating their time, labor, equipment, and material to repair these very expensive adaptive sporting wheelchairs.
Our Rugby program is one of our most popular events. We posted your group on our website for your wonderful donation. If we can ever do anything for you please just let us know. You or any of your group is welcome to come out and watch the guys and girls play. The sport is open to all physically challenged individuals free of charge. It is played every Friday night at the Georgia Farrow Recreation Center in Irving, Texas.
Thanks again, we appreciate you all!

Huge Success! TEAM RISE Sled Hockey Party
Posted on February 12th, 2009 1 commentThe TEAM RISE Sled Hockey Introductory Party held Saturday, February 7th was a huge success with a total attendance of 62 folks. I found out early Friday morning that there was a schedule conflict with our ice time that we get for free. The center had accidentally double booked the ice.
TEAM RISE went into action with an alternate plan to make sure that everyone had a great time. We quickly developed a new plan in their parking lot as an outdoor event. We set up a tent and prepared lots of food and drinks. We set up three outdoor programs to introduce our participants to other RISE Programs. Rugby was a big hit as well as well as Handcycling and Golf.

Rugby
Posted on January 24th, 2009 No commentsRugby last night was awesome! We fielded a team of mixed players. We had quad’s and para’s playing full contact, neck-n-neck games! We had a lot of fun and it was nice to see so many of you out enjoying yourselves. Since Coach Andy wasn’t in town (he’s attending a rugby tournament) we skipped the usual warm-ups and went straight into playing. Spencer and Justin did an awesome job explaining the rules to the new players and helped get everyone positioned. I want to send a special thanks to Eric (E-D) for encouraging the newbie John to come out and play. Can you believe John has only been injured since June?! We look forward to seeing him and all the other regulars next week!
If you’re a quad or para and are interested in playing, check our Rugby Program page and get yourself acquainted. We have lots of pictures and if you have any other questions feel free to email Paul Gray at pgray@riseadventures.org.
